The Club Masters
IT WAS our annual Masters competition, on Sunday morning, at the bowls club, with 10 players starting the day off hoping to end it with the Masters Jug in hand.
Group A was topped by Jamie Maher, who went through the group stages unbeaten, as too did Reef Peel, in group B, both advancing to the semi-finals.
Joe Wilson defeated Denise Hujboom in the 1st qualifying final.
Denise hit a 180 on Sunday and was unlucky not to hit a second. Joe then dispatched Arthur McMinn to set up a clash with Reef Peel in the semi-final.
On the other side of the draw, Zak Jaggard defeated Jodie Collins to face off against his son Dave Jaggard for the chance to make it to the other semi-final.
But Dave earned the bragging rights in the Jaggard household, for the time being, defeating his father to advance.
Reef Peel was looking sharp all the way through, on Sunday, and looked like he could go all the way, but the wily Joe proved, yet again, how tough a competitor he is, defeating Reef by 4 legs to 2.
In the other semi, Jamie Maher clinched his spot in his 3rd final this year, by beating Dave Jaggard by 4 legs to nil.
This was the 2nd final this year between Joe and Jamie, with Joe taking the honours in the first one.
In a best of 9 legs, Jamie broke Joe’s throw early to take a slight advantage in the match at 3/1.
Joe held his throw in the next leg to make it 3/2, but Jamie held his own throw before breaking Joe’s again, to win the match 5/2.
That win is Jamie’s first major title at the club, and his first piece of silverware. It only took four years.
