LAST THURSDAY, the Chamber hosted a highly successful networking meeting at Filby’s Motors, in Proserpine, showcasing its commitment to delivering valuable opportunities and support to the local business community across the region.
The event brought together more than 40 enthusiastic attendees, who were eager to explore new strategies and collaborations.
Presentations from Amanda Camm MP, and the federal government’s Business Industry and Regional Outreach Team on visa options for regional businesses, set the tone for an elevated discussion on business priorities.
When asked what could be some of the ‘big ticket’ items the region’s business community could unite and work on over the next two years, a range of strategies were identified.
These included rethinking how we define the region’s population and the impact this has on the community; prioritising health initiatives, infrastructure, and emergency services; emphasising the region’s history, arts and culture; advocating the region’s ability to handle the projected increase in cruise ship visits; and revitalising key precincts such as Proserpine as vibrant community and business centres. More consultation will follow.
