ANYTHING Environmental has officially opened a Cannonvale depot and its grand opening, on Monday, April 17, was a raging success, with the community and team working together to stop over 24,000 containers ending up in landfill.

Anything Environmental is the collection refund point for the ‘Containers for Change’ scheme, where people can do their part to reduce litter and increase recycling by bringing in eligible containers to be redeemed for 10 cents each.

Anything Environmental owners Jason Mordey and Jo Higgins previously operated a depot in Jubilee Pocket, but have now moved operations to Cannonvale, after their business outgrew the Jubilee Pocket site.

“We outgrew it and we wanted to look after our staff by moving somewhere better than a shipping container,” Ms Higgins said.

“It’s just a nicer environment, and we’re hoping we’ll capture a lot more people being in Cannonvale because a lot more of the population reside in the Cannonvale area.”

Anything Environmental also provides commercial collections and free bins for events and have supported many local festivals, including the Great Barrier Reef Festival and Airlie Beach Festival of Music.

“We’re hoping in Cannonvale we’ll be able to do more with the community, if people have events, they can let us know and we’ll supply bins,” Ms Higgins said.

“Anything to capture the containers and stop them going into landfill.”

The Anything Environmental team received more than 24,000 containers, on Monday, and has refunded over 20m containers since they first established themselves in Jubilee Pocket.

The team is excited to continue operations in the new depot, with the premises being fully air conditioned, making recycling more pleasant for staff and customers.

“It was a very successful day, we had lots of happy customers and lots of friendly feedback saying what a lovely environment it was,” Ms Higgins said.

Opening hours will be Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm, Fridays 8am to 3pm and Saturdays 8am to 12.30pm.

The site will close between 12pm and 1pm, Monday to Friday, so staff can take a well-deserved lunch break.
