THE TRAILER for the Stan original series, filmed locally in Proserpine, was released on November 23.

Popular Australian media steaming service Stan released the trailer for the six-part Stan Original Series ‘Black Snow,’ which will premiere on New Year’s Day.

â€˜Black Snow’ is set in the sugar cane fields of North Queensland, and stars Talijah Blackman-Corowa and Jemmason Power, alongside Brooke Satchwell and Alexander England.

The six-part series began filming in Proserpine, in June 2022, and community members will note the familiar cane crops in the background for much of the show.

‘Black Snow’ acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which the series was produced, including the Ngaro Gia and Juru people of the Birra Gubba Nation, and the Australian South Sea Islander community and their significant place in Queensland’s history.

‘Black Snow’ is set in 1994, in the fictional North Queensland town, Ashford.

A group of high school students are working on a time capsule. One week before the capsule is buried, Isabel Baker (Talijah Blackman-Corowa) is murdered. Who killed Isabel Baker?

The crime shocks the small town and devastates Isabel’s Australian South Sea Islander community.

The case is never solved, the killer never found.

Twenty-five years later, opening the time capsule unearths a letter from Isabel that sheds new light on her unsolved murder.

The investigation is reopened and Det. Sgt James Cormack (Travis Fimmel), from the State Cold Case Unit, arrives in Ashford to begin the search for Isabel’s killer.

The mystery-drama series has deep ties to the Australian South Sea Islander community and combines the character-driven storytelling of a coming-of-age drama with the gripping mystery of a classic whodunit.

A Goalpost Pictures Production, ‘Black Snow’ has received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Stan, and is financed with support from Screen Queensland, Screen NSW and AMC Networks’ Sundance Now.
