LOCAL Whitsunday celebrity Kieran McCarthy and the ‘Flash as a Rat’ band have released a live recorded concert of ‘Wrecked Again’ and cut it to 100 vinyl copies.
The vinyl record will be launched at the Jubilee Tavern, Jubilee Pocket, on Thursday, March 30, at 7pm, along with a live performance from Kieran McCarthy and the band.
There will also be copies available for sale.
On November 17, last year, Kieran McCarthy and the ‘Flash as a Rat’ band recorded a live album at the Bowls Club, in Airlie Beach.
Mr McCarthy said the decision was ambitious, but he is happy with the result.
“We decided we’re at a pretty good standard now, so we’ll do a live recording; it was a bit ambitious but it went very well and it turned out very good,” he said.
“This will be a first for Airlie Beach, having a local vinyl of original material pressed.”
The launch of the vinyl will take place at Jubilee Tavern, with guests being treated to a live performance of the album.
“We’ll play the set that’s on the record and a few others and I’ll take a record player along and play the record through the PA,” Mr McCarthy said.
“The quality is great. I spent more money on getting it properly mastered, in Melbourne, because the mastering for vinyl is different to CD, it’s more involved.
“I don’t know whether it’s my imagination but when you put vinyl on, I’m sure that they sound better than a CD.
“Records seem to have a warmth that CDs don’t.”
Mr McCarthy intends to release the album to CD, down the track, as well.
