A FORUM has been held to showcase the future vision of the TAFE campus, in Cannonvale.
The forum included over 40 community members from a diverse range of backgrounds and two state MPs, Mark Ryan and Julieanne Gilbert, who visited TAFE Cannonvale on Monday, July 11, to discuss the future of Whitsundays TAFE campus.
They met with TAFE Cannonvale campus manager Julia Wheway, Aquaculture Project Officer Sam Penglase, and Learning and Development Manager, Tassal Prawn Farm, Steve Harrison.
The meeting aimed to give an overview of the campus’s future plans, as well as a training overview and an update of the new agriculture and aquaculture facilities, in Bowen and Cannonvale.
After the meeting, the attendants toured the campus including the proposed aquaculture site in Cannonvale, the student administration area, classrooms, commercial kitchen, and the student Collaboration Hub.
The construction of the aquaculture hub is expected to be finished by early 2023, and delivery of aquaculture training will start soon after.
“The aquaculture hub we are building here in Cannonvale will play a pivotal role in training people to be job ready to meet the growing demands of this region’s aquaculture industry,” Aquaculture Project Officer TAFE Dr. Sam Penglase said.
“It’s an exciting time to be in the aquaculture industry in the Whitsundays, as it is rapidly expanding in the volume of food being produced, but also becoming technology orientated.”
