A LOT of fun entertainment for the whole family is on the last day of this year’s Great Barrier Reef Festival.
The family fun day returns to Airlie Beach, on Sunday, August 7, near the fig tree on the Airlie Foreshore, from 10 am until 2pm.
Races, team water fight, art workshops, face painting, the famous donut eating competition, a treasure hunt and bouncing castles, are some of the activities planned for the day.
“There are activities for all age groups. There are going to be cool workshops, ocean themed face painting, two-legged races, sack races and lots of other fun activities, “family fun day organiser Tanya Hoey said.
The treasure hunt is not to be missed this year, because the winner will win a wonderful prize.
“There will be a junior treasure hunt and a senior treasure hunt. The winner of the junior hunt wins a whole term of kindy gym at the PCYC, and the senior treasure hunt prize will be awarded a term in gymnastics, also at PCYC,” Ms Hoey said.
The family fun day is not all about fun, however, it is also an opportunity for kids to learn.
Various conservation, government and science organisations will be present to educate children and create awareness about the reef.
Every year the festival is possible, thanks to the many volunteers.
“We are doing well as volunteers, but we need a few more. The high school student leaders will be there helping again this year with face painting,” Ms Hoey said.
Remember to bring an (old) shirt to the family fun day, because it’s going to get colourful and messy!
