STUDENTS from Bowen have been innovative at James Cook University, during Global Tropics Future Young Scholars.
Global Tropics Future Young Scholars celebrated the International Day of the Tropics across North Queensland, with a design sprint challenge at James Cook University, on June 24, 2022.
The challenge for this year was to find innovative solutions to the overpopulated planet, which means finding solutions in others.
The signature event had 128 students from 16 North Queensland schools, including five talented Year 5 students, from Queens Beach State School.
“Students used the design thinking process, defining the problem, ideating possible solutions and presented a prototype representation of their chosen solution to a judging panel,” teacher Tenille Piggin said.
The clever students collaborated with like-minded peers in teams to innovate methods of sustainable living on Mars.
“Students were highly engaged in a fast, fun and inspirational design challenge, which included real-life problems to living on Mars and had the opportunity to discuss and meet a real-life scientist,” Ms Piggin said
“We are very proud of our students collaborating with other students from across North Queensland and their achievements.”
