Whitsunday News Column

Must read

ANOTHER very successful Airlie Beach Race week meant the town was packed with people.

Well done to everyone involved. It’s events such as this that really put us on the map (in addition to our amazing scenery and warm Whitsundays welcome, of course!).

There is heaps going on around our region at the moment – there is a definite feeling of ‘coming out’ of COVID and looking to the future.

Obviously, COVID is still very much around but I think we have realised that we need to get on with things, despite it.

Meanwhile…

As a newspaper, we are noticing a lot more events happening, compared to this time last year.

Please keep sending us information but, bear in mind, the paper is starting to get full by the weekend prior to the Wednesday publication.

To be assured of making that week’s paper, please submit articles, press releases, photos etc. by the Friday prior.

The exception, of course, is events and sport happening over the weekend, and breaking news.

We wish we could expand our printed pages whenever we needed to but, obviously, that can’t happen.

We can, however, ‘expand’ our coverage, by publishing stories on our new website – check it out at www.whitsundaynews.net.au

This week…

This week we bring you a number of very topical stories including updates on the Whitsunday Paradise development court case and the Mayoral election.

Neither are moving that quickly!

We also bring you updates on the latest situation with the widening of Shute Harbour Road, Cannonvale, and the proposed new fire station, also in Cannonvale.

We also have some Bowen updates on page 9, including the Bravus road upgrade, a new recycling plant that’s on the cards, and a BGGA opinion piece on Queensland’s low emissions agriculture roadmap.

And lastly

We often get asked for back copies of the newspaper, which is very nice, but we do need a date please.

While journalists tend to have good memories, it’s impossible for us to remember the date every story appeared.

As always, thanks for reading this paper.

Deborah Friend (editor).
