Movie filmed in Whitsundays

Must read

TICKET to Paradise is a romantic comedy about the sweet surprises of second chances.

But perhaps the biggest surprise for movie fans is that, despite a storyline set in Bali, the Hollywood blockbuster was filmed on location in Queensland, with several scenes shot in the Whitsundays.

Academy Award® winners George Clooney and Julia Roberts reunite on the big screen for ‘Ticket To Paradise’ as exes who find themselves on a shared mission to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made.

Cue epic backdrops filled with Balinese beach bars, street markets in downtown Denpasar, waterfalls and forest bathing in Ubud, plus endless, blue ocean vistas and luxe resorts.

The Bali-style pre-wedding icebreaker, in the movie, actually took place on Hamilton Island.

The island played backdrop to a number of scenes in the movie, including the ‘famous’ pre-wedding party around the Bougainvillea Pool, and an impromptu soccer match, on Catseye Beach.

And the part where they are staying at a Balinese resort surrounded by island vistas, is actually the luxurious qualia resort, on Hamilton Island.

The exciting Bali-style arrival by boat, meanwhile, was filmed on Haslewood Island in the Whitsundays, while the ‘Bali Beach’ scene – after the cast has been swimming with dolphins – is Chalkies Beach, also on Haslewood Island.

Lily’s Balinese family compound, meanwhile, was set at the secluded getaway, Palm Bay Resort, on Long Island, with added Bali vibes thrown in.

Ticket to Paradise is currently showing at the Bowen Cinema – see page 20 of this newspaper for times – see how many Whitsunday beaches and resorts you can spot!
