WORK on expanding Rotary’s www.MyWhitsunday.com.au website into a fully-fledged online community hub is once again in full swing.
The team at Rotary Airlie Beach is raring to go and has big plans following a COVID induced development hiatus.
The MyWhitsunday website, previously an online companion to the Rotary Club’s printed phone and community guide, will soon stand alone as a means for locals to connect with businesses, community groups, and each other.
When the final piece of the phase-one enhancements is launched, in early 2023, the site will tie together.
There will be local news and events, community groups and sports clubs, weather, tides and boating information, and local businesses.
“Rotary’s aim in providing this asset to the community is to bring local people together through community organisations such as volunteer groups, sporting clubs, hobby groups and more,” Rotary treasurer Ian Johnston said.
“Unlike some online ‘community’ (social media) websites, the goal of MyWhitsunday is not to have its audience endlessly scrolling through the website.
“Our mission is to get people the information they need to find each other, get outside and come together in groups!”
Community groups will have access to free tools to attract members, list their events, post news items about themselves and more.
“Well-resourced community groups are the keystone of any strong and vibrant local community, and MyWhitsunday will be focusing on empowering the Whitsundays’ community groups in every way we can,” Mr Johnston said.
Local businesses will have a myriad of new opportunities to engage with the community through associations with community groups and new online advertising tools, which will fund MyWhitsunday’s core mission of building a stronger local community.
