THE WHITSUNDAYS are gearing up for a big Remembrance Day this week.
The Bowen RSL Club, in Williams Street, will be a focus for the big day, with doors opening at 10.45am and the reciting of the ode at 11am, on November 11.
Whitsunday Mayor Julie Hall will also deliver a short speech.
Bowen RSL treasurer Rhonda Nilsson said Remembrance Day always drew a good crowd, ranging from veterans, emergency services workers, Lions and Laurel club members, to school students.
The crowd generally numbers 80 to 90 but the rooms upstairs can be opened if crowds swell.
Mrs Nilsson said the RSL was the venue as November was generally too hot to hold the ceremony outdoors, at the Herbert Street shrine.
A grade eight student will play the Ode of Remembrance on a trumpet and high school students will recite the famous words penned by Laurence Binyon, in 1914, to remember the Australians fallen in battle.
Wreaths will be laid after the reciting of the ode.
Poppies have been on sale at the Centrepoint Plaza in the weeks leading up to November 11 by RSL art union ticket sellers.
Mrs Nilsson said it was heartening to see the number of students who remembered those who had given lives to make Australia the country it is today and recognised their service.
She said the RSL rooms were open to anyone wanting to join the celebrations.
