BOWEN’S iconic Big Mango has been repainted to ensure it looks ripe for Christmas – and we are really pleased with the result.
It was a big job to ensure the colours blended naturally and we really appreciate the dedication of Martin, from Gwada Murals, for his attention to detail and hard work, to ensure a great result.
There was also a lot of preparation prior to painting, as it needed to be sanded back and some repairs needed to be carried out first.
The 10-metre mango was built in 2002, at a cost of $90,000.
We are planning to hold a special party for the Big Mango’s 21st birthday, in May next year, so we wanted the Big Mango to be repainted before that.
We also thought that, with mango season now in full swing, it was a great time to do it and we are pleased it has been finished before the influx of tourists over Christmas.
In other news, we had a morning tea last week to thank our wonderful volunteers and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
The volunteers do an excellent job welcoming our visitors and we really appreciate their passion, their knowledge and their efforts.
We are still looking for some more volunteers, especially to help out on Thursdays and Fridays.
If you can spare a few hours a week, and would like to meet some new people and help us promote Bowen, we would love to hear from you.
