Must read

IT WAS a busy weekend around the region, with Pink Stumps Day, in Bowen, and a full afternoon and evening of pre-season rugby league games, at the Whitsunday Sportspark, Jubilee Pocket.

This is just two events, and I am sure there were many more going on. Thankfully, the weather has been a bit ‘kinder’ recently and not interfered with weekend events, as it did a few weeks ago.

If you are holding an event, please get in touch!

Looking forward…

We have plenty to look forward to with events being booked in for the months ahead.

In March, we have the Dittmann Bull Pitt Country Fest, featuring Kip Moore and Randy Houser, among other well known country singers.

The March 10 and 11 family-friendly event, in Bloomsbury, has camping available – but be quick.

Get involved

Also in March is the Clean-Up Australia Day (Sunday, March 5), with heaps of events going on all over the region.

See our story on page 5 and visit www.cleanup.org.au to find out how you can help make a difference locally.

Winter events

And in July, we have the Airlie Beach Running Festival, which is huge for the region, bringing in thousands of people.

The event has officially been scheduled for July 29 and 30, 2023.

Winter is a great time for events in the Whitsundays and we have the Great Barrier Reef Festival and Airlie Beach Race Week just around the corner – both are in August.

If you‘re a business, now is the time to get on board with sponsorships etc.

Meanwhile…

There is mystery aplenty at the Big Mango!

Bowen’s iconic Big Mango was removed by cranes, on Monday, for an ‘exciting initiative’.

Everyone has been assured that it will return….but what’s behind it won’t be revealed until Wednesday, February 22 (too late for this publication, unfortunately – we’ll bring you the full story next week).

And lastly

A very happy birthday to Whitsunday Transit, who is turning 25 years old – see our special feature on pages nine to 14.

As always, thank you for reading this newspaper.

Deborah.
