THE FOOTY is well and truly back with a bumper showing of excellent football on the TV, on the weekend.
Most exciting was the Dolphins winning their inaugural game, beating the Sydney Roosters 28-18.
The new kids on the block are being coached by none other than Wayne Bennett, and this takes the number of Queensland teams in the NRL to four, which is even more exciting.
Closer to home…
This weekend was a big one in the Whitsundays with the Clean Up Australia litter collections taking place all over the region, on Sunday – see story page 1.
It is also International Women’s Day, on Wednesday, March 8 (which is this newspaper’s publication date).
To celebrate, we have our fabulous annual ‘Women in Business’ feature running in this issue showcasing women’s achievements – see pages 11 to 14.
And we report on the Zonta Whitsundays International Women’s Day event, held on Saturday at Coral Sea Resort – see story page 4.
Coming up
If you love country music, whatever you do, don’t miss this coming weekend’s Country Fest Queensland 2023.
Featuring Kip Moore and Randy Houser, it’s taking place at the Dittmann Bull Pit, Bloomsbury.
Not sure if camping’s still available, or sold out already, but it’s just a 45-minute drive from Cannonvale.
Good on local residents, such as the Dittmann family, for investing in shows and artists of this calibre.
Deadlines
And lastly, a reminder about our deadlines for those people contributing stories and photos.
To ensure you have the best chance of publication, stories and photos should be submitted on the Friday prior to the newspaper’s publication on the following Wednesday.
The Monday prior to publication is all about breaking news and the weekend’s sports reports, so it is better to get your stories in before this, if you can. Send to news@whitsundaynews.net.au
As always, thank you for reading this newspaper.
Deborah.
