EASTER is upon us already, with crowds of holidaymakers flooding into the beautiful Whitsundays.
And why not? We’re just a 1.5hr flight from Brisbane (on a good tailwind day!).
And now, with Bonza trips, there’s even more choice.
I was talking to a friend in Sydney on the weekend and her ears pricked up when I mentioned the new Bonza Newcastle flight.
She said it took her 1.5hrs to drive to Sydney airport (she’s on the north shore) and only 2hrs to drive north to Newcastle (for a shorter air trip to the Whitsundays). Makes you think.
Meanwhile
It’s good to see tourism operators and accommodation houses busy.
As for events coming up over the Easter weekend – they are many and varied.
It’s a cliché to say there’s something for all ages (and we journalists do try and avoid cliches!) but there really is.
Sailing fun
You don’t have to be a sailor to enjoy sailing – spectating can be very exciting too!
The Whitsunday Sailing Club will host the Tropical Rentals Whitsunday ‘Sail Airlie’ Regatta, over the Easter period. See story page 28.
With more than 60 off-beach dinghies competing, the event should put on a spectacular show on the waters to the north of the sailing club.
Open to all age groups, the fleet will use three separate course areas, matching boats of similar design or performance, in up to 10 races, over the three days of racing.
So, get on down to the club, for some on-water action, and you can grab a meal and drinks as well.
