‘Best musical talent Bowen has to offer’

Must read

LOCAL Bowen radio station 95.1 Gem FM is hosting an unforgettable night of live, local entertainment with the ‘Bowen Musos of Yesteryear’ event.

It will take place at the Merinda Village Hotel, on Saturday, May 27.

President of 95.1 Gem FM and event organiser Wayne Power is a proud indigenous man, who has lived in Bowen since 1965.

He has worked at 95.1 Gem FM since 1977 and has been president since 2005.

Mr Power is a man of many hats, a TAFE teacher, a plane enthusiast and security officer, with three building trades behind him and a true passion for music.

This passion for music has led him to organise a night that will be engrained in Bowen’s music history forever, showcasing the best musical talent Bowen has to offer, all in one place.

‘Bowen Musos of Yesteryear’ will showcase the best rock music from the past, performed by local musicians that have been immersed in Bowen’s music industry since the 1970s.

The impressive line-up includes DJ Gary, Paul Samuel Robert, Darcy Lowcock, Brian Winterburn, Roger James, T-Bone Winterburn and Adam Winterburn.

Also appearing are Ben Vico, Danny Pilcher and Friends, Lowis Sisters Sharon and Rachel, Graham Rolleston, Ashley Darwen, Wayne Dalton, Robert Dawse and, of course, Wayne Power himself.

The Merinda Village Hotel is a classic country pub, in Bowen, and is the perfect place to host an event like this.

All proceeds from the night will go towards keeping 95.1 Gem FM on its feet, so the team can continue to provide music and entertainment to the region for many years to come.

Mr Power is thrilled to be finally putting on the show, that he’s had on the backburner for some time.

“I’ve had this event in my mind now for the last 10 years and, of course, COVID came in and knocked the entertainment industry around something shocking, but I got it up and I’m running with it,” he said.

“I’m a little bit proud of this show…the idea just flowed off the top of my head.

“It’s already gone bigger than I thought it would ever be.

“The community up here is starving for entertainment. People want a live music show, they want to see people doing it.”
