Whitsunday News Column

Must read

I AM going to stop mentioning the weather in this column – I seem to jinx it.

Just a week ago, I was waxing lyrical about the gorgeous, sunny autumn weather that both residents and holidaymakers were enjoying here in the Whitsundays.

One week later, as I write this, we have had rain, wind…and now it’s cold!

I always get up early on Tuesdays, as it is ‘print day’ for the newspaper, but today there was an additional reason to rise before dawn…

Lest we Forget

And that is, of course, Anzac Day (on Tuesday) and I hope whatever you do – or don’t do – for it, you had a nice day off work and had time to reflect…on family, friends, colleagues…whatever is important to you.

I did not attend the Dawn Service, this year, but I live close enough to the cenotaph to hear the bagpipes, which is nice, and I had my own thoughts.

There were Dawn Services held right across the region – in Cannonvale, Collinsville, Bowen and Proserpine – followed by the march and then the Main Service.

We bring you a snapshot from each community – see photos on page 15.

Meanwhile

There is heaps going on in our region and we hope you enjoy reading this week’s paper.

Did you know that – as well as being available to buy at 30+ outlets – you can subscribe to the Whitsunday News newspaper?

You can have the printed paper delivered to your post box, via Australia Post, or you can have a digital version – exactly the same content as the printed version – delivered via your device.

Digital subscribers receive an email alert, every Wednesday, to remind them that their newspaper is ready to be downloaded from our website.

Visit www.whitsundaynews.net.au for a slice of Whitsunday News, every week, all completely free.

We hope you’ll like what you see and want more…and buy a weekly subscription!

Lastly

Thank you for reading this newspaper and supporting local, independent journalism, local jobs, grassroots sport, and a voice for the community.

The team works very hard every week but knowing people love reading our paper really does make it all worthwhile.

Deborah.
