Whitsunday News Column

Must read

IT’S FUNNY isn’t it.

The more companies try and ‘reach out’ to us – we the consumers, the users of their products – the bigger the disconnect seems to get.

Take an email received from one of my banks recently – I have accounts with four different banks, so I am not ‘dropping’ anyone in it! – but they were asking for my time to complete an email survey.

And yet, when I ask for a human being’s time when I call them up, it’s so hard to actually reach a person.

You can get one eventually but only by hanging on for dear life and wasting so much of your time on the phone.

And when you want to reach your telecoms provider – where on earth is the phone number on their website?

They all try and push you towards ‘live chat’ (with a ‘real’ person known only by their first name and very reluctant to go off script).

Or they steer you towards the FAQs (if I had an FAQ I would have gone there first, thank you very much!).

Government departments (I am finding) are getting even worse than the large corporate companies.

Closer to home

Whitsunday Regional Council has handed down its 2023-2024 budget detailing what it is going to do with the money collected from ratepayers’ and through other sources.

See our story on page 1 and also the council’s double-page spread, on pages 14 and 15 of this newspaper, for the breakdown. This budget affects all property owners in the region.

Lastly

It’s the second week of school holidays and the kids could be driving you mad!

If you have littlies, Whitsunday Regional Libraries across the region have some wonderful activities planned during the break to keep little – and big – kids entertained.

Activities include art and craft workshops, story time sessions, Lego, coding and robotics programs, wildlife education sessions with Wildlife Whitsundays, and slime parties.

See the council’s website for more information.

As always, thanks for reading this newspaper.

Deborah.
