AS REGULAR readers of this column would be aware, the Whitsunday News newspaper has just celebrated its third birthday, on July 15, 2023.
Coupled with the end of the financial year, it was a great time for myself and our management team to review our business, including the needs and wants of our readers (of course!).
To meet the demands of all our readers and followers, we are pivoting the Whitsunday News into a multimedia news business.
The printed newspaper is now going to be counterbalanced by a stronger online presence.
We will be focusing on our digital channels more – delivering more news and community stories online, along with everything else we already deliver online.
We accept that people consume their news differently, nowadays. The WN readership is the best it’s ever been in print, and now it’s growing online as well.
So…the printed Whitsunday News newspaper will now move to a fortnightly format, starting on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
This will be balanced by weekly news on the website and social media channels, so the weekly news cycle will continue.
Our team is the strongest it’s ever been in our three years of operation, with strong skills across both print and digital media.
We have spoken with our distributors and advertisers about the move, and they have been supportive.
We ask that you, the reader, continue to support our newspaper on this next chapter of our journey.
Please buy every issue of the printed Whitsunday News newspaper (they will be clearly dated). It really does make a difference when our loyal readers buy every copy we print.
