THE ‘After Dark’ program commenced at the PCYC, Jubilee Pocket, on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
After dark Boxing is a program designed to empower young people aged 12 to 19 years, by improving physical health and wellbeing, emotional resilience, self-esteem and confidence, using sport in a safe and structured peer environment.
‘After Dark’is a safe place for young people to come and participate, make friends, and engage in a weekly sports-based program.
This program is offered to young people who may have limited opportunities to engage in positive activities after hours.
The group boxing session – facilitated by Sergeant Billy at the PCYC – runs every Thursday between 5.15pm and 6.30pm during the school term with assistance from police officers from the local police station.
The program is free and membership cost will also be sponsored by the club.
“The program serves as a safe place for young people to come and participate, make friends, and engage in a weekly sports-based program with program mentors and Queensland Police Officer’s supervision,” Sergeant Billy said.
“Consistency is key to achieving goals and developing good healthy habits.
“We have plans to start After Dark Basketball soon. We are looking for volunteer helpers. Volunteers are an integral part of PCYC.”
After Dark volunteer mentors are responsible for providing general program support, maintaining a positive engagement with program participants, and promoting positive social interaction.
