Proserpine wins Watts Shield
Bowen were defeated mainly due to Proserpine’s number two Ladies team, who returned the astonishing figures of 108 games to 19. Proserpine were narrowly defeated in No 1 men’s team, despite the efforts of Gary Scotford and Alan O’Neill. In handing the Shield to Proserpine president Darcy Emmerson, Harold Watts passed on congratulations for an astounding win and promised greater opposition from Bowen next year.
Victory In Cattle Creek Shield
Local bowlers recorded a comfortable win against North Mackay. Ron Demartini’s team starred, winning by a 20-point margin.
AFL
The Airlie ‘Bloods’ suffered their first defeat to Bowen in two years despite the efforts of Scott Hamilton on debut and Mick Murtagh.
Associates Golf
Elaine Hadlow won the 1984 Championship, beating Irene Butterworth by a single stroke.
Archery
Ken Gough won the Sunday Competition from runner-up Andy Dinnie.
Rugby Union
Raiders defeated Keas 6-0 and moved into top spot in the Mackay and District Table.
Little Athletics
59 children competed on Saturday. The 800 metres event saw two under 8 boys, Andrew Fraser 3m 29 secs and Raymond Moretto record faster times than most of the older boys.
Table Tennis
Saturday’s fixtures saw ralliers move to second place in ‘A’ Grade overtaking Ted’s Terrors. Rotshots held on to top spot thanks to the efforts of Stan Larkin, Elspeth Scotford and Colleen McDowall. Topshots retained top place in the ‘B’ Grade competition.
Proserpine Motorcycle Club
The Proserpine Motorcycle Club’s reputation was enhanced. One time number one plate holder Les Wilson took over the commentary at Dray Park, on Sunday, and did a fine job.
Love Is…..
Guest speaker at the Christian Women’s International Convention, held at the RSL, on Thursday, Aileen Burgess discussed different kinds of love and emphasised that in order to ‘love thy neighbour as ourselves’ we must first love ourselves.
Ladies Squash
Marge Maloney and Chris Fuller took out the honours with a total of 84 points.
