THE RESULTS of the Whitsunday Game Fish Club’s Mackerel and Reef Fish Rally, held over the weekend (July 13 and 14) are as follows:

Twenty-two adults and five junior members of the Whitsunday Game Fish Club (WGFC) fished the Mackerel and Reef Fish Rally, on the weekend, catching some nice Spanish Mackerel and a wide range of reef fish.

The heaviest Spanish Mackerel was caught by Reece Mathews, using 10kg line and weighing a respectable 18.85kgs, with runner-up Brendon Rock with a 12.85kg fish.

The longest Red Fish was a 75cm Nannygai landed by Glen Upstill, just beating Glen Bray by a mere 2cms.

Gavin Smith had the longest Coral Trout in the Adult section with a nice fish of 65cms.

Champion Junior was Kane Bird with an 80cm Nannygai and a 56cm Coral Trout, closely followed by Dylan Towers, Benson and Jasmine Smith, and Kurt Martin.

A few Spanish Mackerel were hooked and lost by the Juniors.

John Zarafa won the Most Meritorious capture, with a 65cm Trevally and a 49cm Red Emperor caught on the same line.

Both fish were released.

Everybody had a great weekend, even with the 25-knot southerly, on Sunday, which made fishing difficult.

The Club’s AGM and Social Night is this Friday, July 19, at the Whitsunday Marine Club, Cannonvale, from 6pm.

Hope to see everybody there.
