Farewell to Alan Dufty
His family and a crowd of well-wishers and friends, including Lion Clubmates, gathered at the airport to farewell Alan Dufty, as he set off to the Paralympic Games. These were to be held in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England.
Donations From the Lions Club
Proserpine Nursing Home, Junior Sporting Complex and Special Education Unit, were the recipients of a share of the $29,751, which was raised in the 5,597 hours of voluntary work done by the Lions and the Ladies of the Club.
Money for Computers
Principals of the High and Primary State Schools, David Sutton and David Trim, received cheques from Rotary President Dan Spencer to assist in providing computers for their schools.
The High School P&C held a fund-raising dinner to raise funds for the same purpose.
Stunning Screen Printing
Glenda Vickers will start a TAFE class on Screen Printing at the Proserpine High School. It will be for two hours each Wednesday evening, for eight weeks.
Principal Returns
It was a happy gathering when many friends met at the Cannonvale Community Centre to welcome visitors Jack and June Murphy. This was the building in which Jack had taught for nine enjoyable years, from 1957-1965.
Awards For Service
Proserpine District Ambulance Superintendent Mr John Klohs and Ambulance Bearer Mr John Lahney were recognised for their many years of service to the community.
John Klohs had served for 25 years and John Lahney for 15 years.
Pony Club
The majority of Pony Club members enjoyed the camp held at Hinchen’s property, at Tailing Gully, last weekend. President Charlie Young borrowed a horse to save walking. But the horse objected and Charlie found out just how hard Kelsey Creek ground really is!
Weather
Due to shocking weather, planes had to turn away from Hamilton Island and land at the Proserpine Airport. Resort passengers had to be transported by other means. The choppers had a busy day!
