Big Names for Sport’s Night

Many prominent figures in the rugby and racing spheres will be guest speakers at the League’s Sports Night, being held at the Cultural Hall [Proserpine].

Greatest could be Eddie Muller, who began his football career in Proserpine Junior League. Also, there will be League and Union Reps, Wally Fullerton-Smith, Andrew Slack and Paul McLean.

A leading Australian jockey, Neville Voight’s talk should be most interesting. There will be a smorgasbord dinner, drinking and dancing.

Beach Phones

Council raised no objections to Telecom’s proposal to supply two cabinets for public phones in Cannonvale and Airlie Beach.

Boy Stung at Airlie Beach:

A nine-year-old windsurfer was stung by a bluebottle. His mother quickly applied vinegar and other first aid.

Adaptable Toads

The famous Airlie Beach Toad Races will be enjoying a very special new venue in the revamped Hotel complex.

Star Magic in Proserpine

Terry, an accomplished actor, mimic, clown and magician, and Tim who was playing the role of an apprentice magician, provided the Star Magic Show for spellbound children, teachers and parents at the RSL Hall.

There was a lot of audience participation and a bubble machine, which sprayed bubbles everywhere!

Donations for the Nursing Home

Ten ladies had contributed sections for a quilt, which was presented to Mrs Margaret Rigby, president of that Nursing Home Committee. It was to be raffled to raise funds for the Nursing Home.

On behalf of the Alpha Phi Chapter of the ESA, Mrs Edna Winton handed a cheque for $350 to Mrs Rigby, also for the Nursing Home.

Staging Ranger Moot

Eighty ranger guides, leaders and junior leaders will be attending the camp. They will be travelling from all points in Queensland to meet at the State Ranger Moot, which is being held at Cool Palms Youth Centre.

Evening of One Act Plays

Presented at the Cultural Hall by the Proserpine Live Theatre were these three one-act plays: “The Mystery of the Bhaggi Seat”, “The Private Ear” and “Wife Required”, in which lead roles were played so well by Dr John McLean and Mrs Jo Howes.
