THE COMMUNITY spirit was very much in evidence at a recent Ladies Luncheon.
Every year, Margo Stanley entertains friends at her Cannonvale home with a lavish five-course lunch, to raise funds for the Airlie Beach Bowls Club ladies travel fund.
The fund supports the ladies’ attendance at bowls carnivals and competitions.
This year, the event was held on Saturday, September 21, and the theme was ‘Springtime’ with all the ladies wearing bright colours and a fascinator.
Previous lunches have included a Queensland Derby Day Luncheon and a Tattersalls Tiara Day (to celebrate the Tattersalls Tiara Horse Race) with everyone wearing tiaras!
Raffles and sweeps are held to raise money.
Mrs Stanley said she really enjoyed laying on the lunch, complete with ornate table decorations to rival any wedding, and a handmade menu for each lady.
“We had a visitor from Queenstown NZ and some new bowling ladies, who have joined our club recently, and a wonderful time was had by all,” Mrs Stanley said.
“The raffle prize was won by Joan McGrath and the Lucky Door Prize was won by Betty Nicolle.”
The ladies enjoy canapes and champagne on arrival, before lunch is served.
The menu this year was mini pancakes with salmon and cream cheese, potato and leek soup, creamed chicken pie with garlic potatoes, carrots and mixed greens, all followed by double choc and cherry trifle.
“I do a lunch for something – an event – every year,” Mrs Stanley said.
“We have to travel to Mackay and back to play bowls, as well as other places around the region, so this is for our travel fund and it really helps us.”
