Nursing Home Fete exceeded all Expectations

This was a great occasion raising thousands of dollars for the Nursing Home. Rotarians were there with their Ham Wheel and the Lions with their ever-popular merry-go-round. Proserpine Citizen’s Band and the Whitsunday Pipe Band entertained during the afternoon and Country and Western in the evening. There was a Fashion Parade of gowns made from fertilizer bags. A Swinging Love Seat, donated by Gray’s Sawmill for the raffle, was very popular.

Hamilton Developer sells Sea-World

Sea-world on the Gold Coast has been sold for over $30 million allowing Keith Williams to concentrate on the development of Hamilton Island resort, making it one of the prime resorts in the Southern Hemisphere.

Facelift for the ‘Gipsy

Well known cruise vessel, ‘Island Gypsy’, which has operated between the mainland and Hayman Island for the past 10 years, is to undergo a $300,000 refit.

Cannonvale Happy Hour

The WCDA’s October Happy Hour function, on Friday 19th October, will celebrate the installation of the roof on the Whitsunday Shopping Village, at Cannonvale.

 Lion’s World Service Day on October 8th

In Proserpine, members of the club visited homes serviced by Meals on Wheels, Anzac Road Pensioner Units, Whitehaven Place, and the Proserpine Hospital. They had with them many parcels of food and drink to surprise residents.

Another Taipan Tale

And a long tail it was, the tip being 2.33metres away from the fang end. It darted out from under a pile of rocks, being lifted into the crusher by an end loader, and ended up under the end loader’s wheels, much to the relief of the crusher gang.

Involvement in National Parks

Just how it is intended to go about this is not clear, but could possibly be work on the scenic tracks, bird surveys on islands and work on the walls through the Hook Island Aboriginal Caves.

E.S.A. Alpha Phi

The Educational Social, last month, was held at the home of Ann Hiscox, the theme being Macramé Work. Mrs Grevell demonstrated, and everyone tried their skills and went home quite satisfied with their achievements.

Allison Lucas wins State Singles Title

Proserpine Junior Tennis Player, Alison Lucas, won the 14 years and under State Finals of the Coco Cola Junior Tennis Classic, in Townsville, without the loss of a set. She will now be able to compete in the National Finals, in Melbourne.

Proserpine outclassed in Shield Play

Proserpine cricketers were outclassed, on Sunday, when they played Mackay in the Datsun Shield, in Harrup Park. Proserpine managed only 128, in reply to 220 by Mackay batsmen.
