Toni Childs invites you into her world

Must read

TONI Childs is a name that most Australians would have heard but now is your chance to get know the woman behind the name and the many hit songs and albums she has produced.

The prolific singer-songwriter has turned out a string of chart toppers over the decades including mega hits ‘Don’t Walk Away’ and ‘Stop Your Fussin’.

In her ‘Retrospective’ at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre – on Friday, December 6, 2024 – Ms Child’s will share her old catalogue with the audience, as well as giving them a taste of her new music.

Toni Childs has released eight albums – including Union, House of Hope, the Woman’s Boat and Keep the Faith – and has two more albums in the pipeline.

She will celebrate her life’s musical works in song and in story, sharing how her debut album ‘Union’ came to life, among other stories.

Union was released in 1988 and went double platinum in Australia.

Born in California, USA, Ms Childs lived in both the UK and Hawaii for many years, before moving to Australia permanently, in 2012, and now calls Byron Bay home (she became an Australian Citizen in 2022).

She has played in the Whitsundays many times, including as part of the Airlie Beach Festival of Music and she also participated in the 2023 Whitsundays Songwriter Festival.

In 1997, Ms Childs – who has toured all over the world including opening for Bob Dylan and performing duets with Al Green and Peter Gabriel – retired from touring due to a debilitating illness.

It was not until 2006 that she sang again.

Two years later, in 2008, she released her fourth album ‘Keep the Faith’ with the same collaborator she worked with on her debut album.

The 2004 Emmy winner – who started out as a blues musician – writes or co-writes all the tracks on her albums and there was a lot of mid 1990s material on ‘Keep the Faith’.

Ms Childs brings all her life experiences, thoughts, feelings and ‘inspiring independent spirit’ into her performances.

She has produced a list of international hits including Don’t Walk Away, Stop Your Fussin’, Walk and Talk Like Angels, Zimbabwe, Where’s the Ocean, Many Rivers to Cross (cover), I’ve Got to Go Now and Because You’re Beautiful.

The coming years will see the wider release of two very special albums, firstly, ‘It’s All A Beautiful Noise’ (set to be released November 2025) and then ‘Citizens of The Planet’ (due out 2029).

Relive Toni Childs’ greatest hits live in concert at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre, on Friday, December 6, 2024.
