Aged care facility receives welcome funding boost

Must read

A WHITSUNDAYS aged care facility has received an early Christmas present thanks to a government grant.

Murroona Gardens Aged Care, in Bowen, has received a whopping $14.7 million, which will go towards developing a new specialist dementia facility.

The funding boost follows a successful grant application to the Federal Government’s Aged Care Capital Assistance program.

Murroona Gardens is a well established, and highly respected, aged care facility that provides high care, low care, respite, independent living units and diversional/day therapy activities.

Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox MP congratulated the facility on its win.

Since being elected, Mr Willcox has advocated for senior citizens, and pushed for better aged care facilities throughout Dawson, especially for regional areas where medical care can be limited.

He says all aged care facilities should prioritise dignity, safety and quality of life, like Murroona Gardens does.

“After speaking with chairman David Nebauer, I’m pleased to advise Murroona Gardens Aged Care has been successful in receiving $14.7m through the Aged Care Capital Assistance program,” he said.

“The money will go towards the cost of developing a new 2 x 12 room specialist dementia facility.

“Well done to the Murroona Gardens team for their work towards this project.”

The funding will also be used to build a new laundry and a men’s shed on existing land.

Murroona Gardens provides an extensive Day Therapy Program, five days a week.

Activities include exercise programs, celebrations of special occasions, outings, morning melody programs, visiting artists, barbecues and water aerobics.

The independent living units give residents space to be themselves, with services at their doorstep when they’re needed.
