Tourism Whitsundays Update by CEO Tim Booth

Must read

THE FIRST update of the year and already 2025 is shaping up to be a big one for the Whitsundays.

It’s great to be back, and we’re diving straight into what’s set to be an exciting year.

We’re kicking things off on a high—Whitehaven Beach has been named Lonely Planet’s Best Beach for 2025!

With its white sand and stunning waters, it’s no wonder this iconic spot continues to amaze visitors from all over the world.

Looking back at last year, we teamed up with Virgin Australia and PEPR Agency to help showcase what makes the Whitsundays so special.

As part of this, we hosted journalists who shared some incredible stories about our region in top publications, inspiring even more Aussies to visit.

Coverage from Australian Geographic, SMH Traveller, RUSSH and Mamamia has now gone live.

Looking ahead, we’re getting ready to welcome the Hon. Andrew Powell MP, Minister for the Environment and Tourism and Minister for Science and Innovation, to the Whitsundays.

As part of this visit, we’re working on Destination 2045: Queensland’s Tourism Future – a 20-year strategy to shape the future of tourism in our region and beyond.

Key stakeholders are invited to be part of the Destination 2045 consultation workshop on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Airlie Beach.

It is a great opportunity to have a say in shaping a strong and sustainable future for Queensland’s tourism industry. Please register here.

Next month, our team is heading to Sydney for International Media Marketplace, where we’ll connect with top media and influencers to share the latest news, experiences and developments from the region.

It’s a great chance to strengthen media relationships and keep our region in the spotlight.

We’re also putting the final touches on The Whitsundays East Coast Roadshow, where we’ll travel to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to meet with trade partners alongside 15 of our key partners.

This roadshow is all about showcasing the best of our region, building new connections and strengthening existing partnerships to drive visitation.

With exciting campaigns and initiatives in the works, 2025 is shaping up to be a standout year for the Whitsundays.

We can’t wait to work together to make it happen!
