TOUR de Cure’s ‘Signature Tour’ is coming to North Queensland, with the iconic fundraiser set to start from Airlie Beach.
From May 30 to June 6, 2025, 190 riders and support crew will cycle 1,184 kilometres over eight riding days, from Airlie Beach to Port Douglas via Townsville, Magnetic Island, Mission Beach and Cairns.
They will be riding to raise funds for cancer breakthrough research, support programs and prevention projects, with the aim being to raise $2 million.
Along the way, Tour de Cure will fund eight community grants of $10,000 each to local cancer services in the regions they are touring, to help support people affected by cancer.
Camp Quality CEO Deborah Thomas is grateful to Tour de Cure for the $10,000 grant.
“Every day, two Aussie families will receive the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer,” she said.
“As well as providing a recreational break from cancer, Camp Quality provides support at every step of the cancer journey – with in-hospital support for children undergoing treatments and age-appropriate information such as our Cancer Education Program performed by the Camp Quality puppets in schools.
“Camp Quality helps families to reconnect after long hospital stays, build a supportive community and create positive memories together.
“On behalf of the entire Camp Quality family, I would like to express our gratitude to Tour de Cure for their generous support.”
Up to twenty schools will be visited along the route, to spread the Tour de Cure cancer prevention message: ‘Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy’.
The program has been rolled out to over 250,000 school children Australia-wide already and aims to teach that one in three cancers can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices.
All funds raised from the Signature Tour go into Tour de Cure’s annual grants pool, distributed through a rigorous review process.
Each year, top cancer researchers and support initiatives apply for funding, assessed by the expert Grants Committee to ensure the most impactful and innovative projects are supported—driving real progress in cancer research, prevention, and care.
Since its inception in 2007, Tour de Cure has become a national movement of thousands of people walking, running, riding, swimming and attending gala events to raise awareness and inspire support in the fight to cure cancer.
The generosity of supporters has enabled the charity to:
- Raise more than $145 million
- Fund 1,198 cancer projects
- Educate 250,000 school children on how to prevent cancer
- Contribute to 185 worldclass scientific cancer breakthroughs in cancer research.
