Airlie Beach Bowls Club a ‘vital part of the community’

Must read

THE AIRLIE Beach Bowls Club is one of several sporting clubs in the region that would receive a funding boost if the LNP get into power in the Federal Election.

An elected LNP Government will stump up $320,000 to provide crucial upgrades to the Airlie Beach Bowls Club, in Jubilee Pocket.

Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox said the club had long been ‘a vital part of the community’, welcoming players of all skill levels to enjoy lawn bowls and connect in a friendly and social atmosphere.

“I’m excited to announce that an LNP Government will provide $320,000 to the Airlie Beach Bowls Club to conduct much needed upgrades for this local institution,” Mr Willcox said.

“Currently, the front of the club needs the roof extended right down to the social area where members have BBQs, to protect them from the sun and rain.

“They also require a fully accessible walkway ramp for those who live with a disability, to help them get from the car park to the front door safely.

“The LNP is committed to supporting small regional clubs like the Airlie Beach Bowls Club, to ensure they can continue to serve the community long into the future.”

Airlie Beach Bowls Club chairman John Brown said the upgrades would ensure they could ‘showcase Airlie Beach Bowls Club in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic Games’.

“We want to cater for people of all ages who come to Airlie Beach for their holidays and stuff like that, so they can either come for a game of lawn bowls or a bite to eat for lunch or dinner,” he said.

“This project has been on the club’s wish list for many years, and I would like to thank the Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox and the LNP for backing small regional sporting clubs.

“This upgrade would enhance the facilities and attract new members allowing the club to continue to grow into the future and be available for generations to come.”
