THERE are a few tickets remaining for Proserpine’s most anticipated event of the year.
The Proserpine annual Show Ball is a not-for-profit black-tie event, with all profits going to the Proserpine Showgrounds.
The all inclusive tickets include entry, food, live entertainment and a monster raffle!
This year, the event – which is always run on the second Saturday in May – will take place on Saturday, May 10, from 6pm to midnight, at the showgrounds.
The historic event, which used to run every year, was revived again a few years ago following a 25-year hiatus.
And the reception by the local community has been fantastic.
Committee member Amanda Hadlow said it was a community celebration.
“We’re looking forward to getting people together to celebrate,” said Ms Hadlow, who is on both the Show Ball and Show Whitsunday committees.
“We started it again three or four years ago now – we wanted to get it back on everyone‘s radar.
“We wanted to continue to run with it and continue the event to bring people to the showgrounds and make money for the showgrounds.
“The Show Ball is a good revenue raising event – that’s why we wanted to continue it.”
Ms Hadlow said it was a big event.
“We are hoping for a good turnout. The ball normally attracts about 600 people – it’s a big thing for the town.
“I think people like to get dressed up and make a real night of it and let their hair down.
“How often do you get the chance to get really dressed up and experience something a bit different in the area?
“It’s a chance to have a good time. We have great entertainment this year as well, with Luke Geiger performing – he’s building quite a name for himself all over Queensland.
“There’s also great food being provided by Aquava Boutique Catering – it’s a really lovely menu, including delicious canapes.
“The all inclusive package is good value for money.”
Ms Hadlow said it was nice to see the showgrounds utilised for something along these lines.
“Normally it’s just an expanse of grass but when you see it with the marquee and all the lights, it’s quite spectacular,” she said.
“It’s good for the community to get together and realise what a great facility we have here.
“We use the grounds for a lot of things including weddings, camp drafts, dog obedience training.
“It’s very important we keep these grounds maintained – there’s rates, electricity, insurance and building maintenance to cover.
“As a small community, it’s important to make sure these assets are maintained for people to use in the future.”
The mega raffle has more than $10,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.
“It’s pretty huge.
“We have Cruise Whitsunday trips including a Reef Sleep trip, as well as accommodation, dinner and clothing vouchers, camping gear and an Airlie Beach Festival of Music package, to name just a few.”
People do not have to attend the ball to buy raffle tickets, which are $10 each.

The raffle will be drawn on Mother’s Day (May 11).
Show Whitsunday, which has been going for 112 years, will this year take place on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Money raised from Show Whitsunday also contribute to the maintenance of the showgrounds.
