Wangaratta Bowls: Mixed Triples decided in an exciting match

Must read

WITHOUT visitors starting to roll in, Monday self-selected triples has started.

Although not a full green, the winners were Merle Elphinstone, Isobel Wheeler and Robyn Stitt, who defeated Sugar Brunker, Graeme Read and Kennedy Whitton.

Maureen Hyde and Rob Hyde defeated Frank Farrugia; and Bob Dykstra, Neil Chittenden and Joe Paynting defeated Alby Vigar and Dennis Maddely.

Tuesday winners came out on rink four. They were Jack Stamp, Gavin Charles and Bob Dykstra, who defeated Maree Brunker, Steve Roome and Dennis Maddely.

Others were: John Hayson, George Tartaglia and Maureen Hyde defeated Neil Chittenden, Graham Smith and Jenny Lonie; and Andy Gwenda, Lydom Greg Pembroke and Ron Hyde defeated Merle Elphinstone, Shirley Smith, Sue Shearing and Andrew Lonie.

The jackpot remains intact for another week.

Club Competition: On Tuesday afternoon, the final of the Mixed Triples was decided. What an exciting match to watch.

Allan’s team had a reasonable lead, only to lose six ends in a row, going into the last end with Mark’s team even.

Bowl for bowl, the end changed continually, with Laurie Land, Penny Warren and Allan Rolfe defeating Robyn Stitt, Margaret Wilson and Mark Drummond by two shots.

On Sunday afternoon, four triples and one pairs was played.

The winners were Maree Brunker, Jim Steele and Kennedy Whitton, who defeated John Hayson, Isobel Wheeler and Pat Tracey.

The Men’s District Purple pennant will be played this weekend at Wangaratta and BBC.

Good luck to our men competing in the event. If you have a spare moment, come down and watch some great bowling.
