Show Memorabilia on Display
The display, in a Main Street Building Society window, proved to be very popular. A photo of August Hinschen’s winning team of working horses from 1924 was on display.
The oldest local trophy shown was that won by F.W. Dray for the best cigar leaf grown in Proserpine, in 1919. Tobacco growing thrived in Proserpine in those days.
Historical Records for Bicentennial Committee
Local people were urged to support the efforts of Don Dinnie and Vera McClennan to record old prints and interviews with residents to compile historical records of the shire.
Kindergarten Cut
At present, kindergarten costs are subsidised only 80 per cent by governments. A Commonwealth cut of a further 25 per cent was announced. President of Proserpine Kindergarten Jenny Horsford urged locals to sign a petition to the government, to increase the funding.
Successful Sailing for Sinbad
Proserpine Live Theatre performance, played before packed audiences, was most successful. Harry Benjamin set the mood and audience participation played an important role.
In Memoriam:
Neil Leslie Peterson, who died suddenly two years ago, aged just 20 years, was remembered by family and friends on this day.
Doctor John McLean Leaves Town
At his testimonial dinner, he was described as ‘one of Proserpine’s favourite people’ – Dr. Mclean was the town’s well loved family doctor for 30 years. John was a very active community member being involved in numerous organisations such as Rotary Club, tennis and table tennis clubs, and the Live Theatre Group. He will be moving to Mapleton.
$1,100 Raised by Ball Of ‘85
The committee and Proserpine Leos presented a cheque to the Proserpine Hospital for $1,100, raised by the Ball Of ’85.
Dog Show
The Proserpine A.P. and L. Dog Championship Show has a record number 254 dogs exhibited this year.
Guided Mill Tours
Guided Mill Tours will again be conducted this year under drafted guidelines.
Golf
Golf Club Champion was John Grosskreutz with a gross of 237 from 54 holes.

Soccer
Proserpine were hosts to a junior carnival attracting teams from four areas. Best goalkeeper award went to Aaron Donnelly.
Whitsunday Nights beat Mackay Wests 3-1.
