AIRLIE Beach Bowls Club finally has the all-weather cover it’s been waiting on for so long, meaning games no longer have to be delayed when it rains.
“It’s so amazing to finally realise that no longer is weather a problem, no longer can rain delay play and, after Friday’s grand opening, it’s been full steam ahead,” club spokesperson Mark Mawson said.
Meanwhile, play continues, with Rounds 7 and 8, on the weekend.
“And only one more weekend of redemption is left, and all divisions need to finish strong,” Mr Mawson said.
Saturday morning Division 1 was in Sarina and only Manny Isgro’s team of Noel Crosbie, Jeff Tierney and Andy McDougall were successful, whilst Bob McMahon and Warren Mills’ respective teams were gallant in defeat.
On Sunday, at home – also against a strong Northern Beaches team – all three teams were defeated.
It was a similar story for Division 3, on Saturday morning, against a champion South Suburban team, who were far too superior for Ted Cullen’s team and also for Steve Laurie’s side and, again, at home on Sunday were soundly defeated by Marian Bowls Club.
Division 5 played at Seaforth and brilliant bowls were played by John Askew’s team which Dan Robinson, Duncan Smith and Eric Barnard drew in a close match.
However, the second team led by skipper Stacey Hadlow was soundly beaten with only Rick Brunell playing exceptionally fine bowls.
On Sunday, a great performance at home to a very strong South Suburban side with both games going to the last bowl.
A wonderful performance by all players, who played a real team game, congratulations to all involved.
Division 6 also played strongly, on Saturday, and also just went down and, on Sunday, went to Sarina with results to be published next report.
It was great to see Neil Moore returning for a quick visit from Victoria – he has lost a lot of weight but he told us he knows where it is!
The club will have coaching on Monday and Thursday afternoons and have news on the school program and the Endeavour Foundation.
