Art students support kids in Africa

Must read

THE TWELFTH annual Art Exhibition – showcasing work by students of Cannonvale Smart Arts studio founder Suzi Hancock – will open this Friday, July 18.

This year’s special feature will be an auction of entries in the African section, after the judging of categories, by noted artist Carol Bell.

Auctioneer Brad Sobott, from Taylors Property Specialists, will wield his gavel.

Suzi is raising money for ‘Aid for Africa Down Under’ (AFADU), supported by Cannonvale artist Pammie Harrison.

AFADU, a registered charity for more than 20 years, was set up to care for HIV/AIDS orphans, at the Lirhanzo Children’s Village, in a remote, poor, rural part of Zimbabwe.

Mrs Harrison has been on the board of AFADU for 15 years, making her first of nine visits there, in 2005.

“I am elated that the ever generous Suzi, a sponsor of orphans at the children’s Village for many years, has come up with this fabulous way to raise money for the children’s ongoing education,” the prize winning painter said.

Two of the sensational pieces to be auctioned include ‘Mzimba’ (RHINO) and ‘Chimp my Ride’.

The Art Show, with over 80 pieces of incredible art on display and for sale, will open at 6pm.

It is a $10 ticket-only entry, with wine and nibbles included.

All art will be on display for one week.

Smart Arts is situated at 8 Commerce Close, Cannonvale. Phone+61 7 4946 6705.
