NATIONAL Tree Day is coming up and Whitsunday residents are in for a treat with a tree planting event that includes a free BBQ and giveaways!
National Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature protection event.
It is proudly sponsored by Toyota Australia and the local event, in Cannonvale, is being sponsored by Filby’s Motors.
Everyone is invited to join Filby’s Motors and Whitsunday Catchment Landcare Inc. for National Tree Day 2025.
The celebration is taking place on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 9am to 12pm.
It will be held in Galbraith Drive, Cannonvale – look for the signs and Filby’s BBQ tent!
“Filby’s Motors is proud to support Whitsunday Catchment Landcare at this event with a free BBQ, plus Toyota giveaways and National Tree Day giveaways,” a Filby’s Motors spokesperson said.
The Galbraith Park tree planting project improves water quality and aquatic habitat, provides a wildlife corridor and animal habitat, as well as a green space in an increasingly urban setting.
This will be Whitsunday Catchment Landcare’s last National Tree Day planting at Galbraith Park.
After more than a decade of planting, and Whitsunday Catchment Landcare volunteers’ dedication to preserving flora in the area, it is nearly finished.
Planet Ark’s National Tree Day started in 1996 and has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event.
It’s a ‘call to action’ for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to the community.
While every day can be Tree Day, the celebration of Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day are on the last Friday and Sunday in July, every year.
This year, Schools Tree Day is Friday, July 25, and National Tree Day is Sunday, July 27.
Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature protection event has a goal of planting more than one million new trees, shrubs and grasses every year.
Since 1996, 28 million trees have been planted, with 10 million hours of time donated by five million volunteers.
