WE HAVE had the shortest day of the year and it’s hard to believe that we are almost at the end of June.
Everyone has returned from the Australian Open, all having a sensational time on the Gold Coast.
Tuesday afternoon Social Bowls saw a huge roll up and the winners were chosen by the dice with 5 points for a win plus ends won, which was magnificently organised by Carol Crosbie.
With 21 points, the winners of the day were Pip Heddles, who has returned from South Island New Zealand, who teamed up with Mark Mawson for a great win.
Wednesday afternoon Jackpot bowls, run by Rick Gale,a saw Lu Rogan with Billy Gordon and Rick Galea the big winners of the day, however, the Jackpot wasn’t won.
No results obtained from Business House Bowls and the Queensland schools’ competition is in its final stages with the final four to play off from the Christian College to play the winners of St Catherine’s school to see who will represent the Whitsundays and play the Mackay schools champions.
Saturday and Sunday saw rounds 7 and 8 of the Men’s Pennants being played with mixed results.
Division One played South Suburban away and came away with one point only as they did on Sunday away against Proserpine and will need a big effort next week to remain in Division One.
Division 3 played away on Saturday with Rod Howard and Ted Cullen brilliantly leading their teams with a commanding win as well on Sunday against highly fancied Serena taking 9 points from their weekend efforts.
Whilst Division 5 played brilliantly away at Mackay Bowls club under trying conditions to narrowly miss on major points but a big win from Mervyn Stewart’s team with Craig Coleman playing out of his skin and a wonderful team effort and the same on Sunday against competition leaders RSL with a 11 point win and an overall teams win to take home 5 points from their weekends efforts.
