THE WHITSUNDAY Coast Airport (WCA) team was flying high, with their heads in the clouds, this week after smashing not one, but two records, in their 70-year history!
The weekly passenger numbers through the airport this week hit 12,605, with a new daily record of 2,355 people.
The previous daily record was 2,200, which also occurred during the Easter school holidays, in 2022.
Whitsunday Coast Airport, which is located south of Proserpine, has a rich history.
It was first established in the 1950s as a small dirt runway, and it wasn’t until the 1980s that it was upgraded to a modern airport capable of handling larger planes.
Since then, it has undergone several expansions and upgrades, including the construction of a new terminal, in 2019.
Today, Whitsunday Coast Airport is a vital hub for tourism in the region, connecting visitors from all over the world with the many wonders of the Whitsundays.
