Must read

THERE IS a long list of nominations for Whitsundays councillors and Mayor, when Whitsundays residents go to the polls, on Saturday, March 16.

The 2024 local government elections are taking place right across Queensland, on this date, with the deadline for nominations being 12pm, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

At the time of the 12pm cut-off, on Tuesday, four people had thrown their hat into the ring for the top job.

Current Mayor Julie Hall announced, last week, she would not be standing again.

Those vying for the role of Mayor in the local government election are Peter Hood, Ry Collins, Richard Evans and Philip Batty.

Meanwhile, eight people are going for the role of councillors, with six positions available.

Sitting Councillor for Division 2 Clay Bauman is re-standing, with longtime local Tony Price also standing for Division 2.

Division 6 will also be a dual run affair, with John Finlay and David Paddon both standing.

Current Division 6 Councillor Mike Brunker is not standing.

Division 1 Councillor Jan Clifford, Division 3 Councillor John Collins, Division 4 Councillor Michelle Wright, and Division 5 Councillor Gary Simpson are all standing again, with no one contesting those divisions.
