The Whitsunday Game Fish Club’s ‘Barra Bash’ at Lake Proserpine is on the weekend of March 22 – 24, based at Camp Kanga.
It is open to all club members who wish to get away for the weekend and try their luck with the lake’s world famous barramundi.
The club is also conducting a membership drive, on Friday evening of March 22, at 7pm at Camp Kanga and is offering a discounted rate of $35 per adult and $20 per junior.
This includes affiliation with state, national and international bodies until July 31, 2024.
This will enable you to compete in the club’s Barra Bash, Trevally and Queenfish Rally, on May 19, and the Mackerel, Red Fish and Coral Trout Rally, on July 14. More about these later.

The club is also very keen to get as many Small Fry (under 11 years old) and Junior (under 16 years old), boy and girl club members to enter the free GFAA (Game Fish Association of Australia) National Junior Tournament.
This will be run from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. Points will be gained throughout the year on captured and tagged and released gamefish and sent to GFAA for the chance to win some of the fantastic prizes and trophies on offer. More details to come.
The briefing and registration for the ‘Barra Bash’ will be at 7pm, on Friday, March 22, at Camp Kanga and fishing will be at your leisure from boat or shore based, after the briefing, until noon Sunday, March 24.
This is for club members and nomination is free and prizes will be awarded for a photo of the longest barra taken on a brag mat with the date included, in the male, female and junior sections.
You can also join in a family game of tennis ball cricket, on Saturday afternoon, to give your arms a rest from fishing.
