Caitlyn Shadbolt and Melanie Dyer hit Airlie Beach

Must read

COUNTRY pop stars Caitlyn Shadbolt and Melanie Dyer are headed to Airlie Beach for their ‘Dumb Decisions’ tour at the Reef Gateway Hotel, on Thursday, October 6.

“I’m so excited and it’s so great to be on the road again,” Caitlyn Shadbolt said.

“I’d be excited for any show, anywhere, but the fact that we get to go to Airlie Beach, that’s kind of more exciting, isn’t it?”

The duo’s single ‘Dumb Decisions’ was released in early May and has gained prevalent exposure across streaming services, as well as country and contemporary radio playlists.

Melanie and Caitlyn have been best friends for many years and came up with the concept of ‘Dumb Decisions’ while reminiscing about their years of friendship.

“Mel and I have been friends for many years now, so this whole song pretty much came from the fact that we have been friends for a while, so we’ve played shows together before and we’ve made dumb decisions together.

“So, we were sitting down and reminiscing about our stories together and realised that, literally, all the best stories come from dumb decisions, so that’s how the song was born.”

Caitlyn rose to fame after placing fifth on ‘The X Factor Australia’, in 2014, which she says feels like a ‘lifetime’ ago.

“So much has changed since then, but I do still remember it well because it was a very memorable experience and I owe a lot to that show because that was a great platform for me to launch off.”

Caitlyn loves the adrenalin she gets off of performing in front of a crowd and says she fell in love with being a musician and hasn’t looked back since.

“As a kid, I remember being really bad at sport, and my mum tried to get me involved in all the different sports and I hated it, so once I picked up a guitar, I just fell in love with it when I realise, I could be really good at something.”

The country singer and songwriter still gets her fair share of pre-performance jitters.

“Sometimes it’s just pure excitement but, on some shows, I do get a little bit anxious if it’s a large crowd.”
