Chamber hosts nuclear expert to give ‘pros and cons’

Must read

NUCLEAR is a hot topic currently, for businesses and residents, and one local business organisation is taking the bull by the horns on the subject.

The Bowen Chamber of Commerce is hosting Professor Greg Lane, who has a PhD in Nuclear Physics, at its monthly meeting, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Prof. Lane is from the Department of Nuclear Physics and Accelerator Applications at the Australian National University (ANU).

He will speak about the nuclear energy future for Australia, both positive and negative, at the meeting, which is free and open to everyone (not just chamber members).

Bowen Chamber of Commerce chairman Bruce Hedditch said the chamber had not taken a ‘position’ on the subject but feels people need to know both sides of the argument.

“We recognise that all Australians are entitled to understand the ‘pros and cons’ of the nuclear debate,” he said.

Professor Lane gained his PhD in Nuclear Physics from the ANU, in Canberra, and has received Australian Research Council Awards and Future Fellowships.

He works closely with the Australian Department of Defence with respect to training workforce leaders for the future Australian Nuclear Powered Submarine program

“I am indebted to Greg’s parents, Brian and Lorraine Lane, both originally from Bowen, for supporting me in securing Professor Greg Lane,” Mr Hedditch said.

RSVP to Bruce Hedditch at bhedditch@gmail.com.

The meeting is at the Larrikin Hotel, 69 Herbert Street, Bowen (opposite the Post Office) and starts at 5.30pm.
