WN column

Must read

WHAT an exciting election it is going to be, on August 13, for the region’s next Mayor.

Monday night’s ‘Meet the Mayoral Candidates’ forum, in Cannonvale, was packed with people pouring in from across the region.

Community engagement was strong, with a heap of questions submitted prior to the meeting and a mass of people keen to put their hand up and pose questions at the forum itself.

It was very well facilitated by the Whitsunday Coast Chamber of Commerce and the mayoral candidates’ answers were well delivered and on point.

In other news

It was the first sitting of Parliament this week which, again, is exciting. Hopefully, it is a fresh start for the country.

I think any government who went through the first few years of COVID was going to be doomed at the polls.

I welcome the change – this paper is apolitical but, personally, I am rooting for ‘Albo’ and hope he can pull off (if not all) at least the majority of his pre-election promises.

He certainly came out ‘all guns blazing’ with 18 bills on the table to be discussed and voted on.

Meanwhile…

We continue to work hard at the Whitsunday News to bring you a cross-section of stories.

It is a massive region geographically and we are trying to get around the region and meet people in person and, when we can’t get there, thank goodness for Zoom.

Like a lot of businesses currently, recruiting staff is a challenge but it is one challenge I am giving my 100 per cent attention to in the second half of 2022.

New website!

I know I mentioned this in last week’s column but for those who don’t yet know – or have been too busy to log on – please check out our new website at www.whitsundaynews.net.au

Please let us know what you think.

If you are some distance away from a retail distributor, you can subscribe to a digital flip book version of the paper, available online every Wednesday.

Thanks for reading this column!

Deborah.
