| THE Whitsundays Writers Festival is making a return to the Airlie stage and promises a feast for the senses for lovers of writing, words and books. Each day of the festival starts at 9am at the Whitsunday Sailing Club, Airlie Beach, which is the main festival venue, with a restaurant and bar. Paid parking (via an app) is available at the Sailing Club and free street parking is available within walking distance. Airlie Beach’s iconic Beach Book Boutique is the official Festival Bookshop, just a short walk from the Sailing Club, next to the Airlie Lagoon. The bookshop sells a wide range of new releases, old favourites, and local souvenirs, and will also have a pop-up store at festival venues selling select titles from the event’s guest speakers. The Big Book Club High Tea will be held 3.15pm on Saturday, September 7, at My Rainbow Cafe, Shingley Beach, Airlie Beach [Please note, this is now sold out]. Immediately following the High Tea will be the Saturday Sundowner event, from 5pm to 6.30pm, at Whisper Restaurant and Gin Bar, Mirage Whitsundays, Altmann Drive, Cannonvale. Attendees can enjoy a short and easy end-of-day stroll from High Tea to the venue via the Bicentennial Boardwalk or take the festival courtesy bus. There will be a bus available at the end of the Saturday Sundowner event back to the Whitsunday Sailing Club. The festival’s closing event, the Local Author Long Lunch, will be held from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, on Sunday, September 8, at the Whitsunday Marine Club, Altmann Avenue, Cannonvale. Return bus transfer from the Whitsunday Sailing Club will be available. On top of all this, there are author presentations, discovery sessions and special events, with 14 featured local authors and 13 guest speakers. Throughout the festival, there will be many opportunities to meet Whitsunday writers and discover new Australian stories.
