THE DON River Dash has become one of the biggest sporting events in Queensland during the past few years.
Due to take place this year from September 6 to 8, the Don River Dash delivers heart pumping action over two massive days.
Cars and bikes will race along the Don River riverbed, in Bowen, in what is being billed as the best offroad race on the East Coast!
Spectators are encouraged at the organised viewing spots, as the motorbikes, buggies and trophy trucks race over the rugged terrain and jumps, to complete the 300km course.
Each competitor will pass the spectators vantage points three times, giving continuous action over two days, unlike other similar races where spectators only see the action for a single pass.
“Spectators will have the opportunity to watch world class competitors racing at incredible speeds at close proximity,” a Don River Dash spokesperson said.
“This gives an adrenaline rush not easily experienced anywhere else.
“To keep spectators fuelled and energised, there will be an array of food and beverage vendors available.”
The Don River Dash was the brainchild of North Queensland residents Michael Marson and Talbot Cox.
Both avid off-road buggy racers, Michael and Talbot had been invited to compete in the Baja 1000, in Mexico, in 2017.
They thoroughly enjoyed the event, especially the section of the race that was in a riverbed.
A few years later, Talbot was flying over the Don River in a chopper and realised just how similar the dry riverbed was to the Baja track.
And the idea of the Don River Dash was born.
Talbot approached fellow Burdekin Offroaders club committee members Dave, and daughter Courtney Muir, who had made the natural progression into offroad car racing through their Yamaha dealership.
They are both champions in their own right and instrumental members in the DRD committee.
The four of them worked together with other club members to deliver the inaugural Don River Dash and it has grown every year since.
