THE FIRST event of the Whitsunday Game Fish Club’s new fishing year is being held on the weekend of July 19 and 20, 2025.
The annual Mackerel and Reef Fish Rally is shaping up to be a ‘beauty’ according to organisers, with Whitsunday Powersports and Marine signed on as the major sponsor.
Reef Fish have been included in the rally, due to the Queensland Mackerel bag and boat limits of one per person and two per boat.
The popular rally starts on Thursday, July 17, with registration and briefing at 6pm, at the Marine Club, Altmann Avenue, Cannonvale.
“This will a great opportunity for new members to join the club and join in all the activities the committee has planned for the year ahead,” WGFC spokesman Ashley Moore said.
Membership remains at $70 per adult and $35 per Junior under 16 y.o.
A detailed workshop on Mackerel Fishing – including rigging trolling baits, lure and bait presentation, how and where to find them and a few secrets on reef fishing – will take place after the briefing on Thursday, July 17.
“Everybody is welcome,” Mr Moore said.
“The club has revamped its point score system and now members can compete all year for monthly and end-of-year awards.
“This will create a bit of friendly rivalry, especially among the kids, and make for an exciting year ahead.
