THE PROSPECT of employment as an airline pilot has never been better, with the aviation industry facing a global shortage of pilots.
The Whitsunday Aero Club Aviation Promotion Day, on Sunday, October 27, attracted more than 50 aviation enthusiasts seeking to gain a better understanding of what was required to become a pilot.
The Aero Club’s promotion day, held at its club house at Whitsunday Coast airport, allowed potential pilots the opportunity to learn how they could obtain their pilot’s certificate or pilot’s licence to become recreational pilots or to move on to become commercial pilots.
Nick Wright from Wrighton Aviation took three enthusiasts on a short trial instructional flight during the day.
Club members were on hand to give advice to many young ‘would be’ pilots on how they could become pilots.
The event included a free barbecue luncheon sponsored by the Whitsunday Regional Council.
Whitsunday Aero Club President Alan Midgley said the attendance showed that there was a very strong interest in the local community to become part of the aviation industry and that more promotion days would be planned in the future.
“The prospect of employment as an airline pilot has never been better, with the aviation industry facing a global shortage of pilots,” he said.
“With a prediction that 80,000 pilots will be needed by 2032, the number of pilots coming out of flight schools and entering the workforce is not enough to meet the demand.”
