THE WHITSUNDAY Game Fish Club’s Billfish and Tuna rally is being held in September and promises some good ol’ friendly rivalry!
Sponsored by Airlie Beach Tackle World, it all starts with the rally briefing and registration of anglers, on Thursday, September 11.
This starts at 6pm at the club, in Altmann Avenue, Cannonvale, where all details will be explained.
Fishing is on Saturday September 13, and Sunday, September 14.
There will be a social ‘raft’up’, in Stonehaven anchorage, on Saturday night for boats staying out overnight.
All activities, forms and tag cards – along with any fish that need to be weighed – must be at the club by 4pm.
On Sunday, September 14, the presentation of some great prizes will be awarded around 5pm.
The rally is free and open to all WGFC members – club membership forms will be available on the night, for those keen to join in.
Sailfish, Juvenile Black Marlin, Tuna and Mackerel are about in good numbers, at the moment, so it should be an exciting weekend and lots of action.
On Wednesday, September 3, the club is having a very informative evening demonstrating various ways to rig trolling baits and lures on circle and J hooks.
“There will also be valuable tips on tackle and boat set-up, as well as how and where to locate different game fish species,” WGFC member Ashley Moore said.
“This should be handy for anglers of all levels of experience, especially newcomers to the fun sport of light tackle game fishing, and everybody’s welcome to come along.”
The Queensland Game Fishing Association has just held its Annual General Meeting and awards night, hosted by the Townsville game fish club.
“WGFC won the Champion Club for Zone 2 and Champion Club for Queensland in their Qld. All-Ports tournament – a great result,” Mr Moore said.
“Kane Bird was given a Junior encouragement award for some great catches, during last year, and Jasmin Smith got special mention for her tag and release efforts – well done!
“The WGFC is going ahead in leaps and bounds and the Junior program is creating some good ol’ friendly rivalry, which is great for the sport.”
